ARRIVING BY CAR RENTAL:
We are happy to recommend a car rental company for pick up and drop off in Fez. Drop offs in other locations may involve additional charges. Please ask for details.

If arriving by car, you are best to drive to “upper AinesZleiten car park”, the nearest parking to our Riad, on the north side of the medina (N 34° 03.880′ W 004° 58.890′). You can park your car here securely for 30dhs per night. Please note that when you turn off the outer road to AinesZliten, you take the right fork up hill to the upper parking area. There is parking if you continue straight but the one on the right is better for security. Here there are men with karossas (carts) who can bring you to Dar Finn with your bags for 20dhs.

AIRPORT ARRIVAL:
We would recommend you use our concierge taxi service for arrival or departure at Fes airport. Please note that if travel is between 11.30pm and 6.00am the price is 280dhs one way. If you wish to get to us independently, then there is a local bus that stops at the train station, in the Ville Nouvelle where you will then need to get a petite taxi to the Medina.
Ask the taxi to drop you at AinesZleiten upper car park where you can find your way to Dar Finn via Tala Kbira, or ask a karossa to bring you there for 20/30dhs depending on your luggage, size of group. If it is late or early morning, you are best to be dropped at Bab Boujloud where you can access Dar Finn by walking down Tala Sghira.

ARRIVING BY BUS:
There are 2 bus stations operating in Fes and the two main companies are CTM and Supratours. CTM timetable and prices are found on www.ctm.ma, though it is not possible to book tickets online. You are best advised to book at the bus station before departure. CTM FEZ is in Atlas in the Ville Nouvelle and Fes -Boujloud on the outer route of the Fes medina, north east of the Bab Boujloud.

Supratours is part of the Moroccan railways company, so is found on www.oncf.ma, where trains are unavailable, egChefchaoun to Fez. Again, you cannot book online. Supratours FEZ is in the Ville Nouvelle next to the train station, La Gare de Fes.

ARRIVING BY TRAIN:
There is only 1 train station at Fez and this is in the Ville Nouvelle, 10 – 20 mins from the medina. Information on the train times and prices are available on the web site, www.oncf.ma but again you cannot book tickets on line. It is advisable to buy tickets a few days before you travel.

BRIEF ENCOUNTERS:
Some guests have reported meeting young Moroccan men on trains who may claim to be guides, students or simply travelling to Fez and who offer their services whilst in Fez. You should be aware thatit is nothing to be alarmed at and some people are happy to accept this service and arrange to be picked up from Dar Finn.

It is possible that this “guide” will want to take you to shops or restaurants where he will earn a commission, as well as showing you “the sites”. This can be an adventure or a challenge but equally, we would stress that Moroccan hospitality being what it is, may simply be someone being very friendly. However to avoid any misunderstanding, it is best to clarify any expectations at the outset.

Any claims that your hotel has closed, moved, has had a recent fire etc, should be viewed with scepticism and be verified by phone.

TO GET TO THE MEDINA FROM THE BUS OR TRAIN STATIONS: This can be done by petite taxi and you should insist the driver uses a meter. If they say it’s not working, get a different taxi.

To get to Dar Finn during the day, ask the taxi to drop you at“Upper AinesZleiten car park” where you can find your way to Dar Finn via Tala Kbira, or ask a “karossa” (luggage porter) to bring you for 20/30dhs depending on your luggage or size of group.

If it is late or early morning, you are best to be dropped at Bab Boujloud where you can access Dar Finn by walking down Tala Sghira.

ARRIVING WITH A TOUR GROUP OR TRAVEL AGENT:
Please advise us of your time of arrival, and give the driver my telephone number directly, +212(0)655018975 so we can co ordinate a meeting place of meeting.

CONCIERGE CAR SERVICES:
To avoid any hastle, Dar Finn is happy to organise a taxi to pick you up from airport, train or bus stations. We will then send a member of staff to bring you and your luggage to the Riad. We can also arrange a pick up from most destinations in Morocco with a private air-conditioned car, prices quoted below, which may be subject to change, are for up to 6 persons and reasonable luggage,Please ask for details.

TRAIN/BUS STATION 100DHS one way.
AIRPORT 200DHS / 280DHS between 11.30pm and 6.00am one way
CASABLANCA AIRPORT 1560DHS OR 1920DHS (Eng Speaking driver)
TANGIER 1560 OR 2040 (Eng speaking driver)
CHEFCHAOUEN 1200 OR 1500 (Eng speaking driver)
RABAT 1200DHS
MARRAKECH 2400DHS OR 2640DHS (Eng speaking driver)
If you choose any of these services, the price will be added to your bill at Dar Finn. There is no need to pay the driver directly.

Morocco

Africa’s only country with both Atlantic and Mediterranean borders boasts a vastly varied landscape in which you might find yourself surfing serious waves, hiking in the mountains, entering the desert on a camel, or getting lost in the many tiny alleyways of an ancient medina. With a culture that melds Arab, Berber, European and African influences, Morocco always offers up a new experience each time you visit.

Beautiful Moroccan Riads (Part 2)

A stay in a Moroccan riad is the perfect way to experience local history, heritage, culture, and charms whilst enjoying a pleasant and atmospheric stay. A riad is a grand and historic traditional-style house or palace with a garden or courtyard within the building itself. Many riads were once home to wealthy members of society, and a large number have been renovated and restored to their former glory, used for other purposes today. You will find restaurants, shops, and hotels housed within these splendid and atmospheric buildings, and a Moroccan riad is an ideal place to make your accommodation an integral part of your overall trip. Here is the compilation of Beautiful Moroccan Riads (Part 2).

The Best Riads in Fez, Morocco

Traditionally, Marrakesh has been the destination of choice for tourists visiting Morocco, but slowly, another alluring scene has been taking root. Fez, which has been called both the “Mecca of the West” and the “Athens of Africa,” has been increasingly growing in popularity. With the 2015 expansion of the city’s airport (set to accommodate five times the current volume), now more than ever, is the time to visit.

First in service

Mayla Melo spent a few weeks in perennial favorite Morocco. She combined the frenzy of Marrakech with the exquisite calm of the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert, before ending her visit in the ancient walled city of Fez.
